When Amazon came out with its first smart speaker, the Amazon Echo (a.k.a. Alexa), we felt that Amazon had finally figured out what we all, including all other companies that have created their own voice assistants have been searching for - how voice assistants really should be.
At first look at Alexa, it finally made sense of how voice assistants could be used to make our daily lives a little bit easier.
While Alexa was inside a smart speaker, meaning she stayed stationary in one place, all the other voice assistants until then had been implemented in devices such as smartphones, which meant asking them to perform tasks instead of a few simple taps on the screen that you're already looking at, which didn't really make sense.
Introducing Alexa to our System
So, believing that Alexa would be the next big thing, we quickly started developing "skills" which are basically applications for Alexa. The skill that we had developed allows you to simply ask Alexa to log you in or out of the company timesheet system. Which means that you could ask her when you're on your way out or carrying things in both arms.
The videos below are demonstrations of how the skills work.
We will continue searching for other areas that Alexa could help out in.
